Alice Springs 15th July

It was a fairly casual day for our last in Alice Springs. We wandered to the Todd Mall Market. It wasn’t huge, but quite good quality. A variety of Street food vendors were tempting the taste buds. The Canarian vendor impressed us (The Canary Islands) with their huge pan.

Later on it was out to the Old Telegraph Station. This village had been restored over the years.  It was a monumental task in the 1870’s to develop the telegraph line from Port Augusta to Darwin. That allowed Australia to be connected to the world, via the submarine cable to Indonesia, then overland via Asia to a Europe. Remarkable given the remoteness and weather conditions.

Zoom in to read the history!

This quirky sign was on the back of a camper parked behind us in the park.

A lazy afternoon watching North play Sydney. Unfortunately not the right result, but a good game.

Time for us to move on tomorrow on the road to Darwin. Next stop, Devil’s Marbles.

Bye for now.

  2. Hi Helen. Just caught up with all your comments. Much appreciated. Yes, Russell is going native. Looks quite distinguished at this stage. We are having such a great time. So much to see and do, even the driving hasn’t bothered us. Although we aren’t doing too many kms in a day as there are so many points of interest. Busy, but apparently that is how it is going to be for most of the way, according to people we have chatted to. So glad we had made lots of bookings. Some of the free camps are good, others are pretty ordinary (rubbish, close to highway etc). Parks have all been good in their own way. No avoiding the dust! You are on the countdown to your trip. Something to look forward to. Cheers L.
