PIMBA to COOBER PEDY 3rd July

Another cold night, with no heating, but it was bearable.  We just put on an extra layer watching TV.
The early birds left about 6 am. Some of those were camper trailers that had to be folded up!  They are mad. The amount of wild life about!  Each to their own.
We had a leisurely departure at 8 am. As we hadn’t unhooked, it was a quick process to get going.

Wildlife for today (dead). The usual kangaroos, an eagle 🦅 , 4 cows 🐄 .
Wildlife for today (alive). Emus, sheep, those fat crows, and fruit bats 🦇 hanging from shrubs. A little unusual, to see the bats. Initially we thought they were rubbish or plant pods.

The other count for the day is the number of dead cars. 5! Totalled, and left.  All had been prangs with serious front damage caused by hitting something; roos, cows, sheep or ?  The windscreen damage suggested something biggish. They were a good reminder why you don’t drive at night.
Mind you, you still need to be wary during the day as there is plenty of stock grazing roadside.

Not too far out of Pimba, is Lake Hart. There were plenty who had camped here over night. Very pretty spot. Will stop here next time!

Roadside cuppa, before an early lunch about 90km south of Coober Pedy. Only van at this roadside stop for a while,  until a Landcruiser Ute with a flash camper trailer on behind limped in.  They had done an axle on the Landcruiser and not going any further. None of us had mobile reception at this point.  (Not good Telstra).
Fortunately this rest stop did have an emergency phone, (not many of these about out here).  They were a bit philosophical about it as they were heading into the desert (Simpson or Tanami), so it was better to have it happen near civilisation.  We spotted them about half an hour ago with Cruiser and trailer in Coober Pedy on the back of a truck.  They eventually got help.

We got into Coober Pedy about 1.30. I’m glad we had booked, as this place is pumping. I think this park is full tonight.   Seemed to be plenty of vans/trailers being turned away. We did a good walk around town, including to the highest point for a look over the town. It is an interesting view, to say the least. There was grass. The school has a green oval.  It might be fake grass!  The rest is dirt/dust/stone.  Doing a tour tomorrow so more about this place then.

I’m having some technical issues with the blog app. Adding photos is problematic.  Apparently Google bought out Blogger last year and everything has to go through Google. I will just put photos on Facebook for the time being, until I work it out,

Off to have pizza at John’s Pizza Bar tonight. Apparently rated as the 5th best pizzas in Australia (on Trip Advisor).
😀
